Census data shows the number of Hispanics in Oregon who live in poverty is nearly half what it was in 2005, but economic improvements in recent years have slowed, according to Axios. In 2022, about 15 percent of Hispanics lived in poverty compared with 12 percent of all state residents. In 2005, more than a fourth of the state’s Hispanic residents—27 percent—lived in poverty compared with 14 percent of Oregonians statewide. During the past decade, Oregon’s Latino population grew by 30 percent, with many buying homes and holding jobs, primarily in Marion, Umatilla, Morrow, and Hood River counties. Twenty-three percent of Hispanic Oregonians are under 18.
